Adding and subtracting time
Time is not decimal: there are 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour. That makes mental arithmetic error-prone. This calculator converts both durations to seconds, performs the operation and converts the result back to hours, minutes and seconds.
Example
1 hour 30 minutes plus 45 minutes 30 seconds equals 2 hours 15 minutes 30 seconds (2:15:30). Subtracting the same two durations gives 44 minutes 30 seconds.
When it is useful
- Adding up the lengths of videos, songs or lectures.
- Totalling work hours on a timesheet.
- Calculating the duration of a trip or a workout.
- Converting a result to decimal hours for payroll.
